Greetings fellow members:
We are now 3 quarters of the way through 2025 and entering the holiday season which in many parts of the country starts with Halloween. As of this writing, we don’t know whether the government will shut down tonight or not. No matter what ends up happening, I pray that none of you is negatively impacted.
The attachments following the newsletter are a picture of a WW2 Army veteran who is a member of our chapter that was taken only a week ago as he was a flag standard bearer for the return of Honor Flight of Oregon. I just learned that he recently fell and has been hospitalized. Our WW2 veterans are disappearing all too quickly and with their disappearance, the values and standards that made this country so great. I hope that you will say a prayer for Harry and that he will recover completely from his injuries.
The remaining attachments are the flyer for the upcoming Wreaths Across America event that will take place on December 13th or the order form if you wish to obtain a wreath for a family member or friend and the final form is if you just wish to purchase a wreath for anyone in general. I was at an NCOA meeting in April in Roseburg, OR in which a non-veteran county commissioner was sharing his reaction to seeing a wreath on every single one of the 8,000 graves at the Roseburg VA Cemetery. He started crying and it really had an impact on me. We have a VA cemetery in Eagle Point with over 27,000 graves and last year we have approximately 3,500 wreaths on our local VA Cemetery. With more veterans, people, and funds available in southern Oregon, I was shocked at how poorly our communities supported this project. One wreath cost $17 and this project gets youth organizations, schools, and other civic groups to help in the placement of the wreaths. What a great opportunity to teach these volunteers about the significance of the service of each one of those personnel buried in this hallowed ground. If you have any questions, please respond to this email and I will get you an answer.
