From the Desk of the Chairman
March is here and with-it Daylight Savings Time returns on the 10th and Spring pops back onto the calendar on the 20th. I will believe Spring is here when the weather proves it. The Star-Spangled Banner was made our National Anthem on March 3, 1931. March is National Women’s History Month so let us acknowledge all of the women throughout US History whose mark made an impact on our Country. The Iraq War began on March 19, 2003. I was stationed at Pearl Harbor as backfill for the 30th Naval Construction regiment that was in Kuwait in support of the invasion. Where were you? March 31st is Easter, the most significant day in the Christian World. Over the years it has definitely grown in significance from a day when kids hunted Easter eggs and adults had egg cracking contests to see whose egg could outlast everyone else’s without cracking.
Recruiting new members has been a mantra for us and all volunteer organizations for as long as I can remember. The new recruiting program from headquarters is the most innovative ones I have seen in all of my years in NCOA. If you are not a life member, you can recruit 3 new members and earn the ability to pay for another year of your own membership without having to take money out of your own pocket. Additionally, you will be entered into a drawing for a $200 cash card, a $300 cash card and a $500 cash card. We have a goal as an association to recruit 1,001 new members by July 12th. With over 400 members of this chapter, if everyone recruited just one member, we could continue to prove why our chapter deserves to be and remain the “Large Chapter of the Year” for NCOA. Can you help? Additionally, if you send the new recruit through the chapter, a regular member will only cost $20 for one year and an auxiliary member would only cost $15. The chapter would make up the difference. Please help!
I am pleased to report that the 60 Auxiliary members of the Rogue Chapter have formed their own chapter. It is the Roguette Auxiliary #1684. They are looking to be a support mechanism for the Rogue Chapter but they will also take on a few issues that will focus on the families of the veterans who are making up the Rogue Chapter. Thank you Roguette’s!! I/we look forward to teaming up to make a difference in our community and for NCOA.
If you served in the military between 1950-1953 or 1955-1975 and have not yet gotten a Korean or Vietnam Medallion, please let me know and we will get one for you. If you have a family member who served in WW2 and they are no longer with us, you qualify to receive a WW2 Medallion so that you can have something to teach the younger generation what the “Greatest Generation” meant to your family and our country. Please let us know so that we can honor “your” service or the service of a parent or grandparent. Your chapter cares for you no matter where you live. We work for you!
If you have any ideas or suggestions, either contact me at retiredveteran89@outlook.com and I can assure you that your leadership will take note.
