Desk of the Chairman March 2023

March 1, 2023 by NCOA Rogue

Fellow members:

Attached is the March newsletter, as well as another copy of the questionnaire.  So far, 19 members have responded.  We could use more input.

I received notification just last night that the speaker for the 2023 Vanguard banquet in July will be a Medal of Honor (MOH) recipient who was an Army helicopter pilot in Vietnam.  The following link describes the heroism that earned him the MOH, and it is overwhelming to read about what he did.  I hope that some of you will come to the conference in July to hear him speak.

Medal of Honor, Major Patrick Henry Brady, Medical Service Corps, United States Army.

Headquarters is putting out a question about future national conferences.  It is possible that we might do an NCOA cruise in conjunction with the conference and we are soliciting input if that might be something of interest to our members.  If it might be something that you would consider (No commitment at this point until details are released), please let me know so that I can pass on to HQ.

There is an article in the newsletter about the Bettsy Ross grant available to any member of the auxiliary just for being a member trying to improve their stake in life.  There are 8 $500 grants available each year and none have yet been applied for based on my latest information.  If you are a paid-up auxiliary member wanting to take a class to help improve your employability, go to https://ncoausa.org and use the membership benefits tab and then hit the benevolent program link to find out how to apply.

A final sad note, I was awakened this morning to the news that a long-time member and friend passed away last night.  The attached picture was me having the honor of presenting him a Vietnam Medallion at our chapter social just a few weeks ago.  Charles Buckner, retired Air Force was 81 has gone to meet the angels in heaven.  Rest in Peace Charlie!
