June is here and our year is almost half over. Our National Conference will be next month in San Antonio where the Association will recognize a hero from all branches and with a little luck, we might be named Large Chapter of the Year for NCOA for the 5th out of the last 6 years. I hope to see all of you there! June 12 is the day when we recognize all women veterans, June 14th is Flag Day and also is the birthday of the United States Army. A shoutout goes out to SMA Kenneth Preston who is a member of our chapter as well as CSM John Troxell who retired as the Senior Enlisted Advisor of the Joint Chiefs. June 18th is Father’s Day and a big thank you to all who have assumed the responsibility of fatherhood. Summer begins of June 21st and the vacation season officially opens as schools should all be through for the year.
I want to thank all of the Rogue Chapter members, especially Susan Wetzel, Kris Stevens, Ken Wilson, Vicky Hensley & David Haines who have presented Medallions to assist in recognizing the service of our country’s veterans. As of this moment we have presented 310 WW2, 67 Korean & 250 Vietnam Medallions and I have no doubt those numbers will continue to increase. You can all be proud because the efforts of the Rogue Chapter have motivated NCOA members all over the country to recognize our veterans.
We only had one scholarship applicant this year but they came from the state of Montana. Kayli Olson graduated from High School on May 20th and her grandfather, Pete Olson, was there to present the check. Applicant can come from anywhere. All I ask is that we receive a picture of the check presentation, that will hopefully be presented by one of you. Think about it for next year!
We are within reach of our recruiting goal of 50 new members from any category Regular membership is normally $30 but if you recruit a new member, it will only cost $20 providing you process the application back through the chapter so that we can make up the difference. Auxiliary membership normally costs $20 and during this drive it only costs $15. This is only for new members, and they can use a credit card on our Chapter website https://ncoarogue.org and complete an application on the membership tab. Applications can be submitted with a check to NCOA, PO Box 5597, Central Point, OR 97502. Your chapter will make up the difference. Please help! Late entry, an anonymous donor has pledged to cover the cost of the first 10 members that sign up a spouse or 18+ year old child. They must be new and since most of you would qualify. Complete the application that accompanies this newsletter & return to the chapter.
