Desk of the Chairman July 2025

July 1, 2025 by NCOA Rogue

From the Desk of the Chairman

July is here and for most of us, summer is well underway. July 2nd is the 99th anniversary of the US Army Air Corps.  July 4th is our Nations birthday which will be celebrated by parades and fireworks.  July 7th is National Father-Daughter Take a Walk Day which may remind some of you about the importance of family.  July 21st is Global Hug your Kids Day which is another opportunity to bring families closer together.  July 25th is National Hire a Veteran Day which goes to point out the values that all veterans have in the workplace and finally, July 27th is National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day which brought that war to a close. Recent events in the Middle East are a reminder that we live in a stressful world of differing ideologies.  We need to remain ever vigilant and remember that our troops and their families need our prayers during these stressful times.

The Rogue Chapter has now awarded over 1,612 Medallions.  We now have a Cold War Medallion which is available to those who served between 1945 and 1991.  The Persian Gulf/Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) is awarded to those who served between 1990 to present.  All Medallions are now available at a cost of $25 each and there will be a big demand, especially for the GWOT, and this next batch of Medallions will likely help with our recruiting efforts for younger veterans, which is exactly what we need.  Between June 28th and July 5th, we have 5 events to provide Medallions for, so we are looking forward to a busy summer.  We do not charge to receive a Medallion to honor your service, but if you can help pay it forward for the next veteran or can help cover the cost of mailing Medallions to those members who do not live in southern Oregon, it would be appreciated.

Many of you may have had the opportunity to attend a national conference in days gone by and probably haven’t been in years.  This year the conference will be virtual, and I hope to have a link that you can connect to from the comfort of your own home.  No crowded airports or cramped seating.  No long flights. This conference will be free to you. I should have the link available to send to all of you shortly after July 1st.  The conference will take place on July 16th and 17th at 1800 CST.  Full details will be forwarded with the link, so keep a sharp eye on your email for an update.  You will never have a cheaper or more convenient means of attending a conference than this one.  I am anxious to see if Rogue Chapter can repeat for Large Chapter again, and if we do, that will make 7 out of the last 8 years!

I would love to hear from all of you with your thoughts and suggestions.  If you have any ideas or suggestions, either contact me at retiredveteran89@outlook.com and I can assure you that your leadership will take note.
