Fellow members:
I wish all of you a safe and patriotic 4th of July. For those in southern Oregon, we can still use a few people to help out with our 4th of July fundraiser. We need from 6-8 total to sell flags along the parade route in Central Point. There is walking and the time commitment is approximately 2 hours. We have wagons to carry the flags and whoever pulls the wagon doesn’t handle money. They just follow their group and keep the sellers supplied with flags. We cover both sides of the street and beside someone to pull the wagon, we need 2-3 people with each group to handle money and sell flags. We usually make close to $1,000 with this project which helps keep us going. We need to replenish our scholarship fund, as well as our Medallion fund as well as rebuild our care package fund to support an upcoming deployment in early fall.
The event that was scheduled on July 5th to celebrate a Navy veteran’s 100th birthday and award Medallions to over 20 veterans has been changed. The veteran passed away last weekend and the Medallion presentation will be rescheduled to a later date. As of this moment, there are over 50 Medallions to be presented at 3 events so far in July. I will miss both of the breakfasts in Grants Pass in July due to the 4th of July event and being at NCOA’s national conference for the other.
July is about patriotism and the sacrifices our founding fathers made to bring about this great nation. All of you either served our country in the military or had family members who did. Thank you all for your service, either in the military or on the home front supporting those who did. I encourage you all to checkout our website at https://ncoarogue.org and follow all of the activities we are involved with. I would enjoy hearing from all of you and I seek your suggestions as to how we can become even more relevant.
